ENTRY CRITERIA
To qualify for the 2026 event, you must have completed an ultramarathon, a road marathon or trail marathon AFTER 1ST JANUARY 2024. If your longest race is a road marathon, your finish time must be under 5 hours. If you have completed a trail marathon, any finish time is acceptable. If you have completed an ultramarathon (on road or trail) any finish time is acceptable. If you have completed a road marathon in over 5 hours BUT it was at the end of an Ironman, that's acceptable.
If you haven't already completed such an event, you have until 1st June 2026 to do so.
If you have completed some sort of a long distance off-road event that doesn't quite meet our entry criteria, please email team@highlandflingrace.org before submitting your entry.
Long fell/hill races and very long distance trail walking events may be accepted at our discretion. Please note that Half Ironman events are not sufficient and GPS data from training runs will not be accepted.
AGE RESTRICTIONS
Minimum age for entrants is 20 years old (on race day). There is no upper age limit.
ACTIVE GENDER ENTRY
When entries open, we will initially be allocating race places by gender. There will be 500 places for women and 500 places for men, as well as the option to enter as nonbinary. If a particular gender sells out, a waiting list will then be opened for that gender. The aim of this is to balance and equalise the final gender split and also to encourage nonbinary participation. Depending on entry numbers, we may open up any remaining places to all genders at a later date.
EVENT TIME LIMITS AND CUTOFFS
The event has a nominal 9pm finish time, but that’s just a rough guideline as to how long the final runners might expect to be out on the trail for, it’s not a strict ‘time limit’.
There are four mid-race cut-off points:The time-of-day cut-offs are exactly the same for both 5:00am and 6:00am starters, giving 5:00am starters an extra hour of race time to reach each cut-off point.
