2026 Fling Relay - SOLD OUT

Welcome to the NEW Highland Fling Relay Race (Team of Two)

This is a two-person relay event which covers the southern 53 miles of Scotland’s iconic West Highland Way trail through the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park from MIlngavie (close to Glasgow) to the Highland village of Tyndrum.

EVENT DETAILS

The relay race takes place on Saturday 29th August, at the same time as the ultramarathon, and on exactly the same route. Race registration is at the same time and place. Relay runners have access to the same changing and showering facilities, and to the same fabulous food and drinks options at the race finish. The vast majority of the information is the same for both events. The compulsory kit is the same, the cut-off times are the same, and the race rules are broadly the same. So please have a look round the rest of the website for any information you need, as chances are you'll find it here somewhere...

AGE RESTRICTIONS

All relay runners must be at least 20 years old (on race day). There is no upper age limit.

ENTRY CRITERIA

There are no specific entry criteria for relay runners. All runners welcome as long as both team members reasonably expect to make the time cut-offs.

TIME CUTOFFS

Leg 1 runner must reasonably expect to reach Rowardennan by 12:45pm (6hrs 45mins)*
Leg 2 runner must leave Rowardennan by 12:45pm, and must meet the following cut-offs:
  • Inversnaid - 7.3 miles - 2.45pm (time of day)
  • Beinglas - 13.7 miles - 5.15pm (time of day)
  • A82 Road Crossing - 22.8miles - 8.15pm (time of day)
*If a team’s first runner has not arrived at Rowardennan by 12:45pm, the second runner may set off anyway, so as to be able to meet the later race cut-offs. In this situation, the team’s recorded finish time in the official race results will be an aggregate of both runners’ individual leg times rather than an overall ‘total race time’ measured from 6:00am.

SPECIFIC RELAY RACE RULES (in addition to the ultra rules which also apply to relay teams)

  • Two named runners’ full details must be submitted via Si Entries 2 weeks before race day. Substitution of one individual runner IS permitted (i.e. in the event of injury to a team member) but the transfer of a team place to two entirely different runners is NOT permitted.
  • It is strictly FORBIDDEN for any person not confirmed on the team to run in place of another runner. No one is allowed to run using another named runner’s race number.
  • Relay runners are not allowed external support at any time. This includes from your other team member! Use the drop bag system, as your team mate is not allowed to drive all over the race route handing you food and drinks.
  • No support runners/pacers accompanying relay runners.
  • Relay team cars MUST NOT visit or stop at Drymen checkpoint, Garadhban Forest car park, Sallochy bay car park, Milarrochy car park, or Beinglas checkpoint.
  • No dogs accompanying relay runners on the race route.
  • If your team decides to withdraw during the race, you MUST let us know about it before going home.
  • Relay race numbers must be worn on your FRONT AND BACK, and must be visible to marshals at all times.

DROP BAGS

Leg 1 runner may have a drop bag at Balmaha (19.8 miles)
Leg 2 runner may have a drop bag at Beinglas (13.7 miles)

SPECTATING POINTS

Relay team cars/spectators are welcome at Balmaha carpark and checkpoint. Spectators are also welcome at Bogle Glen checkpoint. Team cars can park in Crianlarich, from there to the checkpoint is a short walk uphill on a waymarked trail.

If you have any questions about the relay race, please email us: team@highlandflingrace.org

Entry will be via Si Entries (If you don’t already have a SI Entries account, we advise you to create one prior to entries opening)
